Health NZ and Canterbury DHB Visit Highlights Local Innovation in Medical Technology

21/07/2025 - Miho Tanaka Gumpp

Last week, we had the honour of welcoming Richard Dove, Michael Sheedy, and Helen Lunt from Health New Zealand | Te Whatu Ora and the Canterbury District Health Board to our facility. Their visit offered a valuable opportunity to showcase our role as an advanced manufacturing partner in New Zealand’s growing health technology sector.

With the majority of medical devices currently imported into New Zealand hospitals, we are proud to contribute to a more future-focused, locally supported healthcare system. During the visit, we highlighted our partnership with MARS Bioimaging Ltd, the creators of the world’s first portable, full-colour CT scanner—developed and manufactured right here in Aotearoa.

This cutting-edge technology demonstrates that New Zealand not only has the innovative talent needed to design world-leading medical devices but also the advanced manufacturing capabilities to build them domestically.

We look forward to ongoing discussions about how homegrown innovation and advanced manufacturing can play a vital role in shaping the future of healthcare across New Zealand.
